Submission Guidelines
The Choate Agency’s interest is in strong commercial fiction and narrative non-fiction. The agency does not handle romance, self-help, confessional memoirs, spirituality, pop psychology, religion, how-to, New Age titles, poetry, or screenplays.
Queries should consist of four elements: a brief intro providing the title and a short blurb with comps, a short summary like you would find on the back of a book, a short biography, and several sample paragraphs from the manuscript. Do not enclose/attach a manuscript or sample pages unless requested. The same goes for copies of self-published books. As we attempt to be paperless, we currently only accept queries by email.
We do our best to respond to each query but unfortunately are not always able to do so. That being said please give us up to three weeks before following up on the status of a query.
Important Tips
Do not send attachments. Please use text within the body of your email.
Please do not submit a full-length manuscript/proposal unless requested.
At the time of submission, let us know if your manuscript/proposal is under consideration by other agents or publishers.
